Engaku-ji
円覚寺
Kita-Kamakura, Kamakura · 鎌倉
Founded in 1282 and spread up a valley beside Kita-Kamakura station, with a great gate, a national-treasure bell up a long flight of steps, and a tea house at the top.
Why it’s worth it
It starts at the platform edge — no walk in at all. Climb to the bell; almost nobody does, and the tea house up there looks over the whole valley.
