Seodaemun Prison History Hall

서대문형무소역사관

Seodaemun, Seoul · 서울

A 1908 prison used to hold Korean independence activists under Japanese rule, preserved with its cell blocks, execution building and underground interrogation rooms.

Why it’s worth it

It is a hard visit and an essential one for understanding modern Korea. Give it two hours and read the panels; the building does not explain itself.
